Thursday I attended the St John’s festival at Constantia Waldorf School where my kids go. The festival, attended by the students and parents, celebrates St. John – the one who points the way. With the celebration, came the bonfire and the symbolic act of jumping over the flames. Waldorf explains, “we jump over the fire, and cast off that which stays behind us. We undergo the cleansing of the fire, when it is possible to see the essence of things. To see the path that must be taken. And we carry in our hearts the flame of St. John to give us the warmth of courage and joy to follow that path, no matter how much of a bumpy road it seems at times” I like that and I enjoyed watching all those negative thoughts vaporize in the flames.
